Jane Kathryn Porter

Jane Porter

Jane Kathryn Porter, 92, of Butler and living at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Gibsonia, passed away Saturday.

Born on Nov. 1, 1922, in Tullytown, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Mary Marray Johnson. She was a lifelong Roman Catholic.

Jane was a 1939 graduate of Trenton High School. She attended Rider College School of Business for two and a half years.

She worked as a clerk stenographer for Rohm and Haas in Bristol, as well as the U.S. Navy in Philadelphia in the 1940s. She then spent 20 years as an electrical tester for Heinemann Electric in Trenton, N.J., and 14 years as an advanced electrical tester at ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB) in Coral Springs, Fla.

After her retirement in 1994, she dedicated her life to hospital volunteer work at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for 17 years, serving more than 9,000 volunteer hours. In 2011, she moved to the Villages of St. Barnabas Retirement Community in Gibsonia to be near her daughter.

Jane was a hard worker no matter what job or activity she pursued. She also delighted in having fun with family and friends. She loved the beach her entire life and always wanted to be involved in activities by the ocean. She was a frequent swimmer, avid reader and persistent shopper. Always health conscious, she enjoyed music immensely and danced often to stay in shape. Big band, rock 'n roll, blues — she did it all.

Jane is survived by her children, Judith A. Rosenbaum and her husband, John, of Butler, and Donald L. Porter and his wife, Dorothy, of Roebling, N.J.; her grandchildren, Tracy Olex Karban of Chardon, Ohio, Christina N. Olex of Newton, Mass., Nadia Porter Letnaunchyn of Baltimore, Md., and John Porter of Bloomington, Ind.; and her great-grandchildren, Joshua, Madeline and Hailey Karban of Chardon, Ohio, and Aidan and Maggie Letnaunchyn of Baltimore, Md.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Walter J. Porter; her son, Jeffrey A. Porter; and her brother, Lester D. Johnson.
