Big fireworks show coming in May to county
CRANBERRY TWP — An event billed as the country’s largest fireworks show is coming to Butler County after outgrowing its former home in Allegheny County.
Called PyroFest, the annual event draws tens of thousands of people from across the region for two days of fireworks shows, music and other attractions.
The festival, sponsored by Pyrotecnico of New Castle, has outgrown its site at Hartwood Acres in Allegheny County and this year it will be at Cooper’s Lake campground on Memorial Day weekend.
It will be May 22-23.
Derek Weber, a spokesman for Pyrotecnico, said today that the company is “extremely happy” to be moving to Butler County.
“It’s going to let us expand the event in ways we couldn’t do over the years,” he said about the increased space at Cooper’s Lake. “The attendee experience will be much better with this site with it being much bigger.”
Tickets and ticket prices won’t be released until mid-February, Weber said, but anyone interested can visit the company’s website at www.pyrotecnico.com.
Jack Cohen, president of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau, said today that his organization has been working for several months to bring the fireworks event here.
“This is a big deal,” he said at a board meeting for the tourism group. “It’s going to attract a lot of people from all over the entire region.”
