Winan McCall

Winan O. McCall, 77, of Perry Township, Parker, passed away early Friday evening at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh of injuries sustained from a fall earlier in the day at his home.

Born on March 21, 1937, in Perry Township, Clarion County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Florence Fowler McCall.

Winan worked on his father’s farm during his school days and, following graduation from the former Parker High School in 1955, he owned and maintained farms in Perry Township his entire adult life. Working right until the day before his fall, Winan was known among his peers for his gentle nature, integrity and dedication to the profession of farming.

A lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Farmers Association, he earned the Dairy of Distinction Award on several different occasions. He was a 35-year service member of the Farm Service Agency, and he was a 20-year service member of the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. A member of the Holstein Association, he and his wife were selected to host the “Town and Country Day” in 1991.

He and his wife were elected Perry Township King and Queen for one of the township’s annual events.

With a sincere love of traveling and learning, both of the McCalls were proud to have visited all 50 states as well as visiting six of seven continents. Some of their favorite highlights of travel were their visits to Russia, China, Brazil, the Panama Canal and Australia.

He was a faithful member of the West Freedom United Methodist Church, where he had served as a trustee.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Joan Fox McCall, who he married on June 6, 1959; his daughter, Sandra “Sandy” McCall of West Freedom; his three sons and their wives, Allen (Alice) McCall of Perry Township, Parker, Scott (Ann) McCall of St. Charles, Mo., and Greg (Carrie) McCall of Lynchburg, Va.; his six grandchildren, Logan, Carter, Arika, Hiram, Savannah and Lillian McCall; his sister, Joyce McCall Dunlap of Callensburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn McCall Grant.

McCall — The friends of Winan O. McCall, who passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Wayne Ave., Parker.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. to services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the West Freedom United Methodist Church, where services will be conducted by the Rev. Dan Myers and the Rev. Barry Weyant, United Methodist clergymen, co-officiating.
