Harry Miller

Harry Miller, 89, of Mars passed away Thursday morning at Visiting Nurses Association Hospice in Butler.

Harry was a lifelong Butler County resident who was very active in the community.

As a young man, Harry ran heavy equipment for Brown and Vaughn and delivered coal. He worked for the Farm Bureau in Mars, then later became vice president of production at ESM.

Harry’s community service included being president of the Salvation Army, a justice of the peace, a constable, and a mayor of Mars. He also volunteered his time and energy to help hurricane and flood victims by cutting down trees and delivering supplies from local companies to grief-stricken areas. His personal mission was to deliver collected items to a small town in West Virginia called Cucumber.

Harry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Suzanne; their daughter, Susie; and their son, Jim.

He is survived by his two siblings in Florida; his children, Doug, PR and David; and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Miller — A memorial service for Harry Miller, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Mars United Presbyterian Church, 232 Crowe Ave., Mars, the church Harry loved and was a member of for 70 years.In lieu of flowers, all contributions can be made to the Deacon Fond at Mars United Presbyterian Church.Professional services are entrusted to Thomas M. Smith Funeral Home, 930 Center Ave., Blawnox.
