CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Vinny Testaverde won a Heisman Trophy at Miami. Now his son wants to be a quarterback for the Hurricanes.

Vincent Testaverde has applied to transfer from Texas Tech to Miami and is expected to be declared immediately eligible, despite appearing in one game this season for the Red Raiders. As a nonrecruited walk-on at Texas Tech, the typical rule decreeing he sits out one season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules wouldn't apply.

Miami wanted to add another quarterback behind starter Brad Kaaya.

CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers acquired center Timofey Mozgov from the Denver Nuggets for two future first-round draft picks.The Cavs announced their second major trade in three days during their game against Houston. Cleveland sent two protected 2015 first-round picks — one acquired in 2013 from Memphis, the other from Oklahoma City this week — to Denver for the 7-foot-1 Mozgov and a 2015 second-round pick.Mozgov averaged 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds this season for the Nuggets.

TORONTO — Peter Horachek will serve as interim coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, replacing fired coach Randy Carlyle.General manager Dave Nonis pointed to inconsistency as the biggest reason for Carlyle's firing on Tuesday. Toronto was in eighth place in the Eastern Conference (21-16-3), with the Maple Leafs coming off a seven-game road trip and just two wins.

FAR HILLS, N.J. — The wife of Jack Nicklaus has been selected to receive the highest honor from the U.S. Golf Association.Barbara Nicklaus will be presented with the Bob Jones Award at the U.S. Open in June. The award began in 1955 and recognizes someone who has shown the spirit, character and respect for the game of Jones, who was a nine-time USGA champion.

SAN DIEGO — Former All-Star pitcher Josh Johnson is staying with the San Diego Padres after missing the 2014 season, finalizing a $1 million, one-year contract that allows him to earn an additional $6.25 million in bonuses based on starts.The 30-year-old right-hander got hurt during spring training and had elbow surgery on April 24.
