Clyde Thomas Jones Jr.

Clyde Thomas Jones Jr., 82, of Butler passed away at 2:35 a.m. Friday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Sept. 26, 1932, in Greenville to the late Clyde Thomas Jones Sr. and Hazel Lila Scriven Jones.

He worked at Armco Butler Works as a clerk in the coil warehouse for 28 years, retiring in 1995.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts Moraine Council, the Bon Aire Reunion Car Club, Junior Achievement, and a Butler Armco sponsor. Mr. Jones was also a member of the Ham Radio Club, both in Butler and North Hills, the North Hills Genealogy Society and the Radio Control Airplane Club.

He enjoyed working on his 1936 Chevrolet truck and was an avid Snoopy fan and collector, fondly known as Joe Cool to his family.

He was active in Boy Scouts for more than 70 years. He especially enjoyed Order of the Arrow activities and teaching its meaning to young scouts. He achieved the Silver Beaver Award, a high lifetime achievement for Scouting. Mr. Jones greatly enjoyed attending and volunteering at numerous Scout jamborees including Moraine State Park in 1973 and 1977, Valley Forge PA in 1963 and Fort A.P. Hill Virginia in 1981. He also traveled to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Camp Buccoco was a favorite place to be and he cherished camping and volunteering his time there for more than 50 years.

Mr. Jones was involved in Vintage Grand Prix races in Pittsburgh, charity bike races and mock emergencies through his association with the ham radio clubs. He deeply loved and spoiled his family, including his beloved dog, Duchess.

Mr. Jones is survived by his loving spouse, Norma Jean Parker Jones, whom he married on April 8, 1957; his son, Clyde Thomas Jones III and his wife, Cheryl, of Slippery Rock; his daughter, Frances E. Jones Smith of Conneaut Lake; his two grandchildren, Linda Jean Smith and William “Bill” Smith and Haley; his two great-grandchildren, Michael D. Smith and Wesson C. Smith; his beloved dog, Duchess; his numerous nieces and nephews, and his extended family, Bill and Rita Perkins and Family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Jones Weyand.

Jones — The friends of Clyde Thomas Jones Jr., who passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church, 341 Muddy Creek Drive, Butler, with the Rev. Matthew Kail of Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church officiating. Everyone please meet at the church. Burial will take place in the Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church, 341 Muddy Creek Drive, Butler, PA 16001, to the Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church Food Bank, 727 West Old Route 422, Butler, PA 16001, or to the Moraine Trails Council of the Boy Scouts, 830 Morton Ave., Butler, PA 16001.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
