Sophie D. Heim
Sophie D. Heim, 92, of Cabot passed away Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.
Born on June 8, 1922, in West Winfield, she was the youngest of the late Frank and Mary Shelatz Perine.
She married Fred “Jake” Heim on April 15, 1950, and she lived in the Cabot area her entire life.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in West Winfield until it closed in 1975 and a member of the St. Joseph Church in Cabot until her death. Sophie was a lifelong member of the Christian Mothers and an active member of St. Joe's, helping with dinners, the annual festival and other church events.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary from 1979 until 2008 and received a certificate of appreciation for her long and active service. She especially enjoyed volunteering as a “pie-cutter” at the monthly Legion dinners.
Throughout her life, Sophie enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards and going on church-sponsored trips. She moved to Concordia Personal Care in 2010, where she became an avid bingo player.
She was employed in the packhouse at Butler County Mushroom Farm from 1947 until her retirement in 1979 and was recognized as a “Golden Retiree.”
Surviving are sister-in-law Gertrude Heim Singler of Cheswick; a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and her new and longtime friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her five brothers and three sisters.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice, the skilled nursing and personal care staff of Concordia in Cabot, as well as the Allegheny Valley Hospital doctors and nurses who cared for her over the years, with special thanks to Dr. Connie Anderson, her longtime physician.
Heim — The friends of Sophie D. Heim, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at theFox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 315 Stoney Hollow Road, Cabot, with Father Mark Pattock officiating.
