The state Department of Transportation has temporarily reduced the speed limit on several roads due to icy conditions Saturday morning.

The speed limit on interstates 79, 376, 279 and 579 has been lowered to 45 mph.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel.

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roads, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow.

PennDOT will continue to treat road throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.
