PITTSBURGH — A Western Pennsylvania woman has been convicted of stealing a neighbor's dog and having it euthanized.

An Allegheny County jury on Friday convicted 58-year-old Gisele Paris of Pittsburgh of theft, receiving stolen property and cruelty to animals.

Prosecutors said Paris took a Siberian husky named Thor on Thanksgiving 2013 because she believed the dog was being neglected, despite assurances to the contrary from a humane officer.

The owner, who is diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer, says the dog had health problems but wasn't suffering.

Police said Paris paid a veterinarian to euthanize the dog in February. Prosecutors said she did that to “destroy the evidence” of her crimes.

MONROEVILLE — Police say numerous fights broke out at the Monroeville Mall in Western Pennsylvania while packed with hundreds of teens.At least two people were taken to hospitals following the Friday fights, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.Monroeville Police Chief K. Douglas Cole tells the newspaper there were at least two arrests, and he expects officers to issue a number of disorderly conduct citations.Cole says officers learned through social media, hundreds of teens were showing up at the mall, reaching as many as 1,000, according to mall security officers.

PHILADELPHIA — Transit officers in Philadelphia helped make a very special Christmas delivery.The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority says two transit officers jumped into action to help a mother deliver a baby on a subway train.SEPTA says the delivery happened as the train was approaching a stop in Center City Thursday evening.Officials say the mother and baby were taken to a hospital in good condition.
