District to monitor official

ELKINS PARK — A suburban Philadelphia school district says it’s paying a former superintendent $900 a day to monitor the woman who now holds that job.

Retired Cheltenham School District superintendent William Kiefer will oversee the embattled current superintendent, Natalie Thomas.

The paper says it’s not clear how long he’ll serve or how many days a week he’ll work.

Thomas makes $180,000 a year and has been in the position for a year and a half. She’s battled with teachers and administrators, including some who have left since she started.

Kiefer’s been hired to assess Thomas’ performance on the job.
