MONROEVILLE — The Salvation Army has returned a $10,000 gold-and-diamond ring to a Pittsburgh-area woman who accidentally dropped it into a donation kettle.

Lisa Hawkins, of Murrysville, tells KDKA-TV she stopped to Christmas shop Tuesday and unknowingly scooped up the ring when she grabbed some change out of her purse.

Hawkins was planning to get the ring re-sized along with some other rings.

The ring was a 10th-anniversary gift 24 years ago and Hawkins says she immediately wondered if she had tossed it in the kettle when she got home and found it missing.

The television station learned that volunteers found the ring and put Hawkins in touch with them Wednesday.

Volunteer Chris Blessing says people accidentally donate all kinds of things, including “buttons, hearing aid batteries, pocket lint, and Chuck E. Cheese tokens.”
