State police seek suspect in 2 store robberies
MUDDY CREEK TWP — State police are looking for a man suspected of robbing two stores along Route 19 Friday.
The unknown suspect, believed to be in his 20s, robbed the Last Minit Mart, 1649 Perry Highway, about 2:15 p.m., according to state police in New Castle.
The robbery came about 20 minutes after a robbery at Book’s Market in Scott Township, Lawrence County.
The two stores are a little more than five miles apart.
Police said the man first entered Book’s Market, 3384 Perry Highway, at about 1:55 p.m. and requested several packs of cigarettes from the clerk.
The man then brandished a handgun and demanded the clerk give him money from the cash register. The clerk handed over a known amount of money and the suspect fled on foot, going southbound on Route 19.
Police did not report how much money was taken.
Police said a similar robbery then occurred at the Last Minit Mart.
Police said the description of the suspect in both robberies matched. The man is described as thin and between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10. He was wearing a dark hooded sweat shirt and had a bandanna covering his face.
