James D. 'Dean' Lumley
James D. “Dean” Lumley, 97, formerly of McConnell Street, Grove City, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Thursday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City.
He was born on April 8, 1917, in Harrisville, the son of the late James Lumley and Jane Shuttleworth Lumley.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel E. Gurney, on Sept. 11, 1950, and his second wife, Alice B. McElravy, who he married on June 2, 1952, and who died on July 1, 2010.
He retired in 1979 from Cooper Energy Service, Grove City, where he was a machinist for 35 years.
Dean was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City.
A former member of the Grove City Elks Lodge, he was an avid golfer and a longtime Pitt Panthers fan. Dean formerly coached Little League baseball in Grove City and he was known in his day a wonderful pitcher on the ballfield.
Survivors include his three children, Carole V. Grace of Grove City, Kathleen D. Watters and her husband, Don, of Painesville, Ohio, and Jeff Lumley and his wife, Sue, of Grove City; his 19 grandchildren; his 15 great-grandchildren; and his five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by his eight brothers and his sister.
Lumley — The friends and family of James D. “Dean” Lumley, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, will be received from 9:30 a.m. to time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad St., Grove City, PA 16127. Designate “Youth” in the memo.
