Stancy 'Baba' Bakich Popichak

Stancy 'Baba' Bakich Popichak

Stancy “Baba” Bakich Popichak, 87, of Carnegie fell asleep in the Lord peacefully Sunday.

Born in Highfield near Lyndora to the late Marko and Kata Sapich Bakich, Stancy grew up playing baseball and loved going to dances with her girlfriends from Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Lyndora.

She met her late husband, Paul, at one of the dances, married him in Lyndora and moved to Carnegie. She absolutely loved her family, dedicating her life to raising her four sons and guiding her four grandchildren.

Her love of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Vince Gill had no limits.

She kept faithfully to her Orthodox Serbian heritage and adopted Lemko customs as well.

She was the beloved mother of Father Robert (Regina) of Carnegie, Mark (Amy) of Cortland, Ohio, George (Marie) of Dormont, and Stephen of Jeannette, and the beloved Baba of Lydia, Alexander, Cole, and Matthew Popichak. She is also survived by her cousins, and her nephews, Daniel and Ken Metrick, and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her brother, Stefan, and her sister, Anna “Hynka” Metrick.
