Bresnahan nets 14 in Duquesne loss

PITTSBURGH — Butler graduate Olivia Bresnahan scored 14 points, had three assists and two steals in Duquesne’s 84-52 loss to Green Bay over the weekend.

The Lady Dukes (0-3) play at Howard tonight.

Mars, Knoch gridders named All-GAFC

Numerous Mars and Knoch football players have been named All-Greater Allegheny Conference this season.

First-team selections for Mars are defensive lineman Marshall Robinson, linebacker Hunter Mincer, tight end John Castello, tackle Gabe Spurlock, guard Trevor Heyl, running back Ori Rinaman and kicker Caleb Brake.

Knoch first-teamers include nose guard Sam Whalen, defensive back Asa Adams, punter Mac Christy, running back Cody Milsom and center Matt Jaworski.

Earning second team for the Planets are Spurlock at defensive lineman, defensive back and running back Isaiah Johnson, defensive back Jake Rosswog and receiver Nate Sablowski.

Knights’ second-teamers are linebacker Cory Godlewski, receiver Adams, tight end Christy and all-purpose player Cole Shinsky.

Black bear harvest increases in Pa.

The first day of Pennsylvania’s statewide bear season resulted in a harvest of 1,623 black bears, according to preliminary totals released Monday by the Pa. Game Commission.

The third largest bear harvested in the state belonged to Jeff McClymonds of Slippery Rock, who bagged a 598-pound male in Muddy Creek Township.

A 677-pound bear was harvested in Warren County, a 623-pound bear in Union County.

The preliminary first-day bear harvest in 2013 in Pennsylvania was 1,320.
