Car hits church outside Kittanning
KITTANNING — A 16-year-old driver told police she lost control of her car on an icy road before she slid across a lawn and smashed into the vestibule of a tiny, rural church.
East Franklin Township police said that the driver wasn’t hurt in the crash about 7 a.m. Friday.
The Rev. Jimmy Edwards said the 100-year-old Furnace Run Chapel is canceling services this weekend so officials can ensure the church is safe to use. The nondenominational church is located about 35 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
The pastor said, “Things happen. That’s life. It’s a blessing she didn’t get hurt.”
Most of Western Pennsylvania received light snow Thursday and overnight Friday as temperatures remained at or below freezing.
