Samuel E. Covert

Samuel E. Covert, 67, of Lancaster Township passed away Tuesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township after enduring complications from cancer.

Born on June 17, 1947, in Butler, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Laura Bell Lockhart Covert.

Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and the National Guard for more than 20 years.

After 34 years of dedicated service, he retired from Berry Metal in Harmony as a machinist. As a disc jockey, Sam was affectionately known as “Sam-Sam the Music Man” and performed at numerous weddings and graduation parties. Upon retirement, he truly enjoyed riding on his lawn mower, doing his yardwork, feeding birds and wild turkeys, oil painting and collecting trains.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his adoring wife, Michelle Shidemantle Covert, who he married on Sept. 28, 1996; his four children, Lynda Luster, Shawn Covert, Jolene Covert and Chris Covert; his brother, Jim Covert; his granddaughter, Taylor; his three step-grandchildren; and his numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Leroy, Bob, Richard and Jerry Covert, and his sister, Loretta Logan.

Covert — The Covert family will welcome friends of Samuel E. Covert, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Pastor Reid Moon officiating.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Sam's honor in support of the charity of the donor's choice.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Sam's family at www.glennkildoofuneralhome.com.
