Margaret D. 'Peggy' Davis Geary

Margaret D. “Peggy” Davis Geary, 88, of Grove City passed away at 3:45 p.m. Sunday in the emergency room of the Grove City Medical Center surrounded by her family following an extended illness.

Known by her family and friends as “Peggy,” she was born on Oct. 28, 1925, in Butler, to James Irwin Davis and Gertrude Frances Taylor Davis.

Peggy was married for 48 years to Richard J. Geary. He preceded her in death in 1996.

Peggy was a 66-year member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, and belonged to the Weaver Disciple Class and the Women's Society.

She was a 10-year volunteer for the Community Food Pantry, and she also volunteered for the Blood Bank.

She was a graduate of Grove City High School, Class of 1944.

She was employed at the Mercer County War Price and Rationing Board during World War II. Also, she worked at Russell Roll Jewelers, the Grove City College Bookstore and the J.C. Penny Co., all in Grove City.

Peggy was a past-member of the Pine Grove Golf League, the Shamrock Golf League and the Grove City Bowling League. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Slippery Rock AARP and the Senior Center.

Surviving are her four children, Robert Geary and his wife, Barbara, of New Castle, and Pamela DeGroff and her husband, Jeffrey, Constance Stembal and her husband, Gary, and Barbara Hoffman and her husband, Ronald, all of Grove City; her nine grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Eugene Coppolella, Grove City.

In addition to her husband and parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her five sisters, Marian Davis, Ruth Guy, Mildred Roe, Verna Allison and June Coppolella; her brother, Robert Davis, who was killed in Word War II; her stepmother, Edna Pringle Davis; and her stepsiblings, Charlotte Flecken, Dorothy Sike and Robert Pringle.

Geary — The friends of Margaret D. Davis Geary, who passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad St., Grove City, with the Rev. Howard Greenfield and Rev. Willard Morse officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.Memorials in Peggy's memory may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad Street, Grove City, PA 16127 or to the American Cancer Society.
