SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior forward Stephen Donnelly has been named PSAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.

Donnelly scored four goals, including a pair of game-winners, in victories over East Stroudsburg and West Chester. His 13 goals and 33 points rank second in the conference this season.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University football team remains ninth in the NCAA Super Region One ranking this week.SRU (7-2) needs to finish the regular season among the top six in the region to reach the Division II playoffs. The Rock travels to Clarion (2-7) for a noon kickoff Saturday.

UNDATED —Mississippi State, Florida State and Auburn held the top three spots in the second College Football Playoff rankings, with Oregon joining them in the top four Tuesday night.Marcus Mariota and the Ducks, coming off a 45-16 win over Stanford, moved up one spot from fifth in the initial poll by the 12-member selection committee. They moved in ahead of Alabama, a third team from the West Division of the Southeastern Conference that was also up one place to fifth.

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Los Angeles Dodgers agreed to hire Oakland Athletics assistant GM Farhan Zaidi as the club's new general manager, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said.The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Dodgers hadn't announced a deal with Zaidi, who just completed his 10th season in Oakland's front office as one of general manager Billy Beane's creative assistants and analysts.

CLEVELAND —In two seasons, Terry Francona helped turn the Cleveland Indians back into contenders.He'll get more time to make them champions.Francona and the Indians agreed Tuesday to a two-year contract extension, a deal which carries through the 2018 season and includes team options for 2019 and 2020.
