GREENSBURG — The trial for a 17-year-old boy charged with stabbing 20 students and a security guard at his Western Pennsylvania high school has been postponed until at least March.

Alex Hribal's defense attorney, Patrick Thomassey, asked a Westmoreland County judge to give him more time to file pretrial motions — which had been due Friday — and to move Hribal's trial date from December.

Thomassey says he plans to ask the judge to move the case to juvenile court, where Hribal would face incarceration only until he's 21 for the April 9 stabbings at Franklin Regional High School. Hribal faces decades in prison if convicted as an adult.

If Thomassey files that motion, it will likely further delay the trial as a judge will have to hold an extensive hearing on that request.

ERIE — A private, Catholic university in Pennsylvania plans to open a Florida campus next year for students who want to pursue doctorates in occupational therapy.Gannon University President Keith Taylor says the Erie-based school has gotten approval from the Florida Department of Education to offer the program, as well as separate approval for a future master's degree program for students who wish to be physician assistants.An Erie newspaper reports the campus in Ruskin, Fla., will open next summer.Gannon University Ruskin will be in the Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg. Gannon is leasing a building it plans to begin renovating in January in hopes of attracting 10 to 30 students initially.Eventually, Gannon hopes the campus will be home to 200 to 250 students, with more than 20 employees.

HARRISBURG — Attorney General Kathleen Kane suffered a concussion last week when the driver of her state vehicle struck a parked car in northeastern Pennsylvania, her office said Friday. Two agents also were injured.Kane's office released a copy of the Dunmore police report on the crash and said she wasn't wearing her seat belt in the backseat of the vehicle.“She said: 'Let that be a lesson to everyone to buckle their seat belts when they get in the car,”' said her spokesman, Renee Martin.Kane has been working from home as she heals, Martin said.Her driver told police he took his eyes off the road to pick up his iPad, which had fallen to the floor, according to the incident report. That's when their Chevy Tahoe struck the parked car.Kane, the driver and a third occupant sought hospital treatment. The other vehicle was not occupied.

PHILADELPHIA — Union negotiators and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority reached a tentative contact deal Friday night, averting the possibility of a strike.SEPTA Board Chairman Pat Deon said in a statement that the authority and Transport Workers Union Local 234 reached a two-year agreement.They weren't releasing any details of the deal.
