Malzina E. Saunders
Malzina E. Saunders, 89, of Zelienople, formerly of Portersville, passed away Sunday at UPMC Passavant — McCandless.
Born June 7, 1925, in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Roweine Karsch Ellefson.
She was married for 39 years to Frank A. Saunders, who passed away Dec. 4, 1983.
Malzina graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. She was actively involved in the class reunions throughout the years.
She retired from Slippery Rock School District, where she was a baker in the cafeteria.
Malzina was a charter member and the longtime secretary/treasurer of the Portersville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and baking.
Survivors include four sons, Frank, John, Robert and Rick Saunders; two daughters, Beth Bratcher and Terri Dougherty; two sisters, Roweine “Sis” Rice and Ellen Barjuca; her brother, John W. “Bill” Ellefson; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Saunders — A memorial service for Malzina E. Saunders, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City, with the Rev. Tod Custer officiating.
