Geoffrey W. Hill

Geoffrey W. Hill, 89, formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully at 12:25 a.m. Wednesday at the Passavant Retirement Community of Zelienople after a series of recent illnesses.

He was born on July 18, 1925, in Victoria, British Columbia, to the late Walter B. Hill and Hester Elizabeth Beattie Hill, and was raised in Vancouver, B.C.

Geoff was a 1942 graduate of Vancouver Technical High School and attended the University of British Columbia.

He worked for a time in the lumber industry as a first aid man and later as an office assistant. For the next three years, he was an assistant office manager of the Prince Rupert Fisherman's Cooperative.

The following years, Geoff joined the Canada Life Assurance Co. in Prince George, B.C. After seven years, he was promoted to the head office of the company in Toronto as director of business insurance training.

In 1965, he moved to the U.S. and worked for several life insurance companies. Upon retirement, he was active with Habitat For Humanity in Butler County for 11 years and was president of the Butler chapter for five years. This volunteer work was very satisfying to him.

He was office manager in the construction of the Butler Judicial Center and other projects from 1998 to 2005. In 2000, Geoff joined AARP as an advocate, calling on local politicians to promote programs for seniors.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lorma Weaver Hill; his brother-in-law, Peter Crissman Weaver and his wife, Deedie Dobarro Weaver, of Atlantic City, N.J.; his niece, Sally Schoen of Geneva, Switzerland; his nephew, Douglas Paul Schoen, his wife, Kelly, and their children, Mark, Nathan and Sadie of Singapore; and his nieces and nephews in British Columbia.

Hill— There will be no public visitation for Geoffrey Hill, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014.Friends and family are invited to celebrate Geoffrey's life in a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at the Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 2nd St., Butler, with the Rev. Clark Sawyer officiating.The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Benevolent Care Fund of Passavant Retirement Community, 401 Main St., Zelienople, PA 16063.Arrangements are by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
