John A. McCandless

John A. McCandless, 81, of Center Township, Butler, passed away Sunday at Concordia Care, Cabot.

He was born on June 15, 1933, in Center Township, the son of the late Ray and S. Alene Rankin McCandless.

John was a lifetime resident of Center Township, where he ran his family farm until the time of his death. He also retired from Armco after 34 years of service.

He was a lifelong member of the Muddy Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church, the Belgium Draft Horse Corp. and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Donna Broad McCandless of Butler, who he married on Sept. 10, 1955; his daughter, Laura McCandless of Chicora; his two sons, Gary (Paula) McCandless of Butler and Dale McCandless of Butler; his two grandchildren, Adam and Kassie McCandless of Butler; his five great-grandchildren; and his two sisters, Dorothy Bailey of California and Edna O'Donnell of Butler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Russell McCandless.

McCandless — The friends of John A. McCandless, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to time of services at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, with his pastor, the Rev. Matthew Kail, officiating.
