Mayor wants to keep weekend parking free
Parking on Butler city streets may remain free on weekends after all.
Mayor Tom Donaldson said next week he will propose that city council keep street parking free rather than dissuade people from coming downtown on Saturday and Sunday.
Donaldson said a couple of council members expressed concern about the plan to reinstitute weekend meter enforcement on streets, so he decided to reverse course.
“To calm everybody’s anxiety,” he said.
Donaldson said he doesn’t want Butler businesses hurt.
“People will feel no hesitation to come downtown and shop,” he said.
The mayor said parking always will be an issue.
“No matter what you do about parking, somebody is going to be upset,” he said
His recommendation will not include parking lots or garages.
