Jumpathon at Emily Brittain
More than 300 students at Emily Brittain Elementary School jumped not only for fun, but for their health.
The fourth annual Jumpathon, held for a half-hour Friday afternoon, was designed to teach first through sixth graders the importance of exercise and show how fun it can be, said Sandy Augustine, the school’s physical education teacher.
“We’re increasing awareness on how important it is to be active, she said. “And they have a lot of fun.”
Older students were paired with younger ones, and played different jump rope games outside to fulfill half of the 60 minutes of active workout time people need every day.
Also, students had the option to donate to the American Heart Association, sometimes forgoing snacks at lunch to donate. Families also contributed via donation envelopes.
