Vera A. Duchak

Vera A. Duchak, 48, of Valencia, formerly of the North Hills, passed away Monday morning in Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC.

Born on Dec. 9, 1965, on the North Side, Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of Joseph Funtal of Spring Garden and the late Dorothy Waldschmidt Funtal.

She was the loving wife for more than nine years of James M. Duchak; beloved mother of Kaela (Josh) Meyers of Robinson and Hannah Miller of Valencia; stepmother of Ryan Duchak of Glenshaw, Adam Duchak of North Hills and Whitney (James) McKenna of Jupiter, Fla.; sister of Michael and Joseph Funtal, both of Spring Garden, and the late James Funtal; sister-in-law of Douglas Duchak and the late Dean Duchak; dear grandmother of Jackson Meyers; and stepgrandmother of Morgan, Connor and Case McKenna.

Vera had a strong spirit and, over the past six years with stage-four cancer, she never once held back in living life to the fullest. She enjoyed golfing, riding with her husband, Jim, on his Harley, anything involved with the outdoors, and even skydiving with her two daughters. Above everything, Vera was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, especially cherishing the past six months with her first grandchild, Jackson.

Duchak — The family of Vera A. Duchak, who passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Schellhaas Funeral Home, 388 Center Ave., West View.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Most Holy Name Church, Troy Hill. Interment will follow in Most Holy Name Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 Lyndon B.
