HARRISBURG — Gov. Tom Corbett is expected to sign legislation that would expand the list of disorders for which newborns will be screened.

The bill has been passed unanimously by both the state House and Senate.

Under the bill, hospitals would now be required to screen newborns for Krabbe disease, an inherited degenerative disorder of the central and peripheral nervous systems, and five other lysosomal storage disorders. Those include Fabry, Pompe, Niemann-Pick, Gaucher and Hurler Syndrome.

PITTSBURGH — A couple of former part-time professors have left $15 million to Point Park University, the largest gift in the school's history.It was left to the school by the estate of George and Kathleen White, both of whom taught there after moving to the Pittsburgh area in their 50s.
