SHARON — Sharon Regional Health System that was bought out by a Tennessee for-profit earlier this year has cut 87 jobs and will close outpatient drug and alcohol and mental health programs by Nov. 30.

The health system, which now is owned by Community Health System, says most of the cuts are administrative, clerical or support staff “with only a limited number of clinical or direct patient care positions.” Jobs being cut when the outpatient treatment programs close were among the 87 cuts announced this week.

Sharon Regional says the 251-bed hospital system had 1,750 full- and part-time employees — or the equivalent of 1,100 full-time workers — before the cuts.

Community Health has not said how much is paid for Sharon Regional, but promised to invest at least $75 million in the hospital.
