PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh caregiver has been charged with stealing more than $3,400 from a blind 66-year-old client.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for 36-year-old Deborah Bailey, who was charged Wednesday by the Allegheny County district attorney’s office.

Detectives say Bailey worked for the woman from June 2013 through July and stole the money by using debit and public welfare cards entrusted to her. Bailey was supposed to use the cards to shop for the woman, but detectives say she instead spent the money on herself and drained the blind woman’s bank account.

Investigators say the blind woman discovered her bank account was empty in July and tried to contact Bailey, but a family member of the caregiver lied and said Bailey was in a coma after an accident.
