Serial burglar in Cranberry finally caught
CRANBERRY TWP — The odds finally caught up to a suspected burglar.
After successfully breaking into the same physician’s office four times this month, Justin T. Owens 33, of Middlesex Township was caught Tuesday in the act of a fifth try, Cranberry Township police said.
Owens, who is charged with four counts of burglary, is in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.
The suspected serial burglar had evaded police since Sept. 4, when he apparently first struck at the Rowan Towers office building on Rowan Road.
His target was a physician’s office, according to investigators.
“He was looking for medication,” said Cranberry Police Lt. Kevin Meyer today.
The crime worked so well that Owens allegedly did it again, and again, and again, and again.
His combined take in the break-ins Sept. 4, 14, 18 and 20 were 780 tablets of prescription painkillers, said Cranberry police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino today.
Police did not know if Owens was a patient of the physician or why he repeatedly picked that office.
The office is equipped with a surveillance system but technical problems with the equipment prevented police from accessing video images until Monday, Mascellino said.
Police shared those images with other employees in the building.
Owens’ luck ran out about 6 p.m. Tuesday when he returned there. An employee recognized him from the video and called 911, Meyer said.
Police got there and caught him in the parking lot.
