Carolyn O. Shirey

Carolyn O. Shirey, 85, of Saxonburg, formerly of Butler, passed away Thursday at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Saxonburg.

Born Dec. 11, 1928, she was a daughter of the late William and Eleanor Donahue O'Donnell. She was the wife of the late James W. Shirey, who passed away Feb. 9, 2011.

She was employed by Bell Telephone as a telephone operator, retiring in 1983 following 30 years service.

Carolyn enjoyed cooking and entertaining guests. She also enjoyed playing cards and dancing, but she especially enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church and the Butler Elks.

Surviving are one daughter, Lisa (Henry) Monday of Fenelton; her grandsons, Adam, Allen and Austin Monday; her granddaughter, Aimee Monday; and four sisters, Shirley McClafferty, Nancy (Joe) Vidmar, Susan Moon and Joyce (Ray) Collins, all of Butler.

SHIREY — Friends and family of Carolyn O. Shirey, who died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Butler.
