Marian Elizabeth McConnell Book, 89, of Slippery Rock, Scott Township, Lawrence County, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday at Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care, New Wilmington.

She was born in New Castle Nov. 11, 1924, to the late Thomas Everett and Gladys Marie McConnell.

She married Clarence Robert “Bob” Book Oct. 12, 1948, and he preceded her in death Jan. 11, 2008.

Marian was a dedicated homemaker and was a bookkeeper and secretary for her husband's business in Harlansburg, Books Ashland. She also assisted at Books Market.

She was a lifetime member of Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, where she was the first female elder of the church, and she served as a deacon and was active with the church choir. She was a member of the Liberty Grange, where she frequently played the piano. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include her two daughters, Francette M. Book of West Pittsburgh and Anita M. Parker and her husband, Harold “Hap,” of Slippery Rock; her five sons, John R. Book and his wife, Leah, of Slippery Rock, Donald B. Book of Slippery Rock, Gary L. Book and wife, Judy, of Portersville, Douglas E. Book and his wife, Sandy, of Slippery Rock, and Allen D. Book of New Castle, Harlansburg; her 12 grandchildren, Craig, Todd, Angela, Jessica, Dawn, Erin, Dennis, Blaine, Evan Marie, Felicia, Yolanda and Jeremiah; and her seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mildred Jane Collins LaVelle.

Book — The family of Marian Elizabeth McConnell Book, who passed away Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, will receive friends at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Brady Randall, pastor of Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, presiding. Interment will follow at Unity Baptist Cemetery, Harlansburg.
