Mae Ray

Mae E. Ray, 93, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Butler, went to be with the Lord on June 15 at Northside Hospital in Canton, Ga.

She was born on July 9, 1920, in Franklin, the daughter of the late Bernard and Laura Bly.

Mae graduated from Cranberry High School and later from the Oil City School of Nursing.

Mrs. Ray was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian and Methodist denominations.

She married Robert M. Ray in Oil City on Sept. 30, 1941, and he survives. They celebrated 72 years of marriage last year.

She and her husband settled in Butler, where she worked for Dr. John F. Burns Family Practice for many years as the office nurse. Following that, she worked for 12 years at the Butler VA as a nurse, before retiring.

In 1994, they moved to Leesburg, Fla. Mae took up the game of golf and played up to the age of 90. She was an avid player of card games and board games, at which she excelled. She also loved boating and water-skiing with her family on the Clarion River, where they maintained a summer cottage for many years. Mae enjoyed family get-togethers. She was generous to all and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Robert, she is survived by her two sons, Mike Ray and his wife, Karen, of Canton, Ga., and Greg Ray and his wife, Barbara, of Bethlehem; her five grandchildren, Tim, Dan and Thomas Ray, Lori Ray Taggart and Tanya Ray Belinc; her great-grandchildren, Tristan, Tsali, Owen, Harrison, Thomas Jr., Natalie and Collin; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene Bly, who was killed in World War II; her brother, Frank Bly; and her sister, Edna (Bly) Levy.

Ray— A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mae E. Ray, who passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at theHile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rt. 257, Seneca.
