Cranberry gets self-serve Social Security kiosk
CRANBERRY TWP — Residents in Butler County will be able use a walk-up Social Security self-service kiosk in the township municipal building.
Chelsea Puff, the community projects administrator for the township, said the machine is the first in Western Pennsylvania and one of the first in the country not to be in a federal building.
Dubbed the Social Security Express Customer Service Station, the kiosk is being installed this week and will be ready for use on Sept. 23.
The machine will offer a range of informational and administrative services for a person’s Social Security account, although security measures are in place to make sure any information isn’t compromised.
It only can be used to access the specific user’s information.
Anyone using the machine must create a password-protected account on the township’s website and create an online application form.
Puff said the machine will have a touch-screen, a camera, printer, scanner and keyboard.
