Scoop on his game in Week 1 of picks
I’m on my way.
It was a good beginning to the season with an 11-2 record. If I can keep up that pace, 100 wins is easily attainable.
Of course, it wasn’t a good week for everyone. From Mars to Seneca Valley to Karns City, some major names are lost for large chunks of the season due to injuries.
Let’s hope I don’t come up with a lame wing after this week’s picks:
Baldwin 22, Butler 12 — Rebuilding Butler is going to be a process. This is another game the Golden Tornado can win, though.
Seneca Valley 25, Fox Chapel 10 — Quarterback T.J. Holl is out, but there is plenty of talent on the Raiders’ roster to get back on track after a disappointing Week 1.
Knoch 25, Greensburg Salem 14 — This game takes on much more importance early in the season after Greensburg Salem’s upset (or, perhaps not an upset after all) of Gateway.
I said watch out for the Knights. Here they come.
Mars 31, Yough 13 — Josh Schultheis is out, perhaps for the season, with a broken fibula. But like Seneca Valley, the Planets’ roster is not devoid of talent. Mars will be OK.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 38, Chartiers-Houston 12 — Chartiers-Houston, you have a problem. It’s the juggernaut that is the Trojans.
Freeport 14, Ford City 13 — The Yellowjackets bounce back with a gutsy win.
Karns City 29, Brashear 22 — The Gremlins also were hit hard by injuries in Week 1, but the Gremlins are as deep as any team in the area and that depth will help against Brashear.
Moniteau 31, Clarion-Limestone 10 — The Warriors are another sneaky team to keep an eye on this year. They pulled out a win over Punxsy and should handle a depleted C-L Friday.
Cody Skiver has developed into a dangerous quarterback and can also play a little defense with a pick-six against the Chucks and that offensive line can move people around.
Look out for the ’Teau.
Union 16, Brookville 14 — Two words: Dugan Gallagher. The junior is the balance in the Golden Knights’ attack at running back.
St. Marys 43, A-C Valley 10 — The Falcons will try to snap a 13-game losing steak.
Slippery Rock 30, Greenville 21— This is a big early season test for both teams. Both teams like to run the ball and don’t like to throw it very much.
So, if you go to this game, get to the concession stand early because it won’t be open very late.
Corry 17, Grove City 14 — The Eagles jumped out quickly on Wilmington but faded late. This one can go either way.
Beaver 36, Summit Academy 8 — The Knights get an introduction to just how tough their new section truly is.
Scoop is ready for some (more) football.
