The weekly coffee club/networking breakfasts organized by the Butler County Chamber of Commerce will begin again in September and continue through the end of the year.

The Monday Morning Coffee Club will begin Sept. 8 at the Pittsburgh Marriott North, 100 Cranberry Woods Drive, Cranberry Township.

It will run from 8 to 9 a.m. Mondays with a complimentary continental breakfast and a variety of topics discussed.

It is sponsored by Mars National Bank, Armstrong, Cranberry Business HUB, Butler County Business Matters and the Pittsburgh Marriott North.

The Friday Morning Coffee Club will begin Sept. 12 at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, Route 8.

It will run from 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays with a complimentary continental breakfast and networking among attendees. It is sponsored by Farmers National Bank, Butler County Business Matters and the Fairfield Inn & Suites.

The Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St., hired two new employees.Caitlyn Bovard is the assistant director and Margaret Hewitt is the special collections librarian.Bovard previously was the teen/youth services librarian at the Western Allegheny Community Library. She has a bachelor's in music from Duquesne University and a master's in library and information science from the University of Pittsburgh.She relocated to the Butler area.Before coming to Butler, Hewitt was an archivist with the Connellsville Historical Society. She has a bachelor's in history and anthropology from Alma College and a master's in public history from Duquesne.She has relocated to the North Hills.

WASHINGTON — U.S. consumer spending fell in July, with a drop in auto purchases accounting for most of the weakness. Income growth also slowed.Consumer spending edged down 0.1 percent last month after a 0.4 percent increase in June, the Commerce Department reported Friday. It was the first decline in spending since January. Income growth slowed to 0.2 percent in July, the weakest showing in seven months.The fall in spending came primarily from a decline in auto sales, which took a breather in July after posting big gains in recent months, although spending in other areas was also weak.
