Dorothie Barger

Dorothie L. Barger, 85, of Sunset Avenue, Grove City, passed away at 11:22 p.m. Monday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home, her home since February 2013, following an extended illness.

She was born in Pine Township, Mercer County, on May 10, 1929, to the late Ross E. Covert and Mary E. Kay Covert.

She married Robert K. Barger Sr. on May 14, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 28, 1979.

A graduate of Grove City High School’s Class of 1947, she retired in 2004 from Grove City College where she was a desk hostess at MEP dormitory. Previously she worked for the former King Shoe Store, Bashline Hospital on Pine Street, Thrush Pharmacy and Peden Jewelers.

Dorothie was a member at the East Main Presbyterian Church, Grove City, where she served as a deacon and helped organize THEOS, a widows group at the church.

She enjoyed working on quilts and was known as the Quilt Lady to some students at Grove City College. She was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed traveling, but mostly she enjoyed being with her family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn K. Gregonis and her husband, John, and Sharon M. Fisher, both of Grove City; her three sons, Robert K. Barger Jr. and his wife, Joanne, of Grove City, Dana “Dan” E. Barger of Moon Township and Tom L. Barger and his wife, Mary Jo, of Pickerington, Ohio; her 13 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Helen Dennison and her husband, Harold, of Grove City and Florence “Sis” Birckbichler and her husband, Dale, of Butler; her four brothers, William “Lynn” Covert and his wife, Edna, and Orrin Covert, both of Grove City, Dave Covert of Lake Charles, La., and Leroy “Lee” Covert and his wife, Linda, of Volant.

In addition to her parents, Dorothie was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Sierra Barger; and her two sisters, Edna Ruley and infant Betty Covert.

Barger— The friends of Dorothie L. Barger, who passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, will be received from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Hoffman, pastor of the East Main Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.Memorials may be made in Dorothie's name to either the East Main Presbyterian Church, 120 E. Main St., Grove City, PA 16127, or to the Michael J.
