HARMONY — Though it has taken longer than expected, the Harmony Inn is getting ready to open in “a matter of days,” said owner Bob McCafferty.

The owners have been hiring and training a staff of 55 since late-July when the state granted it an extension on its liquor license allowing the restaurant to store and serve alcohol on the second floor, porch and basement.

Getting the staff prepared has taken longer than anticipated, and though not ready to announce an official opening date, McCafferty said they are almost ready.

In addition to preparing the staff, the owners have been renovating both the inside and outside of the building.

Painting, railings and new steps outside are almost complete. That work was approved by the Harmony Architectural Board and is in keeping with the historic look of the building.

The owner expects the outdoor seating to be popular. “It’s great. We’re going to have people on that upper deck, it’s really a different dynamic for downtown,” McCafferty said.

The inn also had to redo the floor for its kitchen and bar, buy mostly new equipment for the kitchen and paint and do other work for the dining areas.

Bob and Jodi McCafferty bought in the inn in August 2013, but were held up getting a liquor license while the state Department of Revenue required tax information from 2009 to 2013.
