Martha Allen

Martha Marie Allen, 88, of Slippery Rock, Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, suddenly passed away Saturday at the Grove City Medical Center following an extended illness.

She was born in the Province of Quebec, Canada, on Nov. 24, 1925, to the late Joseph Edmond Lussier and Blanche Desmarais Lussier.

She married Charles Raymond Allen on Sept. 9, 1954, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 5, 1994.

She worked for 17 years as a secretary in the mathematics department at Slippery Rock University, retiring in 1988.

She was a member of the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock, where she had served on the Parish Council and as a Eucharistic Minister.

She was an avid traveler who for many years spent winters in Lakeland, Fla.

Survivors include her two daughters, Martha “Marty” M. Berger and her companion, Richard Garland, of Slippery Rock, and Sharon K. Allen and her companion, Adam Snyder, also of Slippery Rock; her two sons, Roger L. and his wife, Kim Allen, of Springhill, Fla., and Daniel E. Allen of Slippery Rock; her brother, Reginald Lussier of Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada; her sister, Theresa “Tessa” Lee of Yorba Linda, Calif.; her four grandchildren, Thomas C. Berger, Ryan W. Berger and his companion, Greta Melton, Amber Allen and Ashley Crocker and her husband, Chad; and her two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Antoine, Rolland and Fernand Lussier, and her two sisters, Jeanne Portelance and Yvette Lemonde.

Allen — A public funeral Mass for Martha Marie Allen, who passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 670 S. Main St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Father Kevin Poecking, pastor of St. Peter, presiding. Interment will follow in Slippery Rock Cemetery. Friends may gather at the church for lunch following the service.Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock.Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 670 S. Main St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057.
