SRU series opens with 'Little Twist'

SLIPPERY ROCK — The upcoming New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players production of “I’ve Got a Little Twist,” which opens the 2014-15 Slippery Rock University Performing Arts Series, shows where “The Mikado” meets “The Music Man “ and where the “HMS Pinafore” sets sail for “Brigadoon.”

The cabaret-style show begins at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in the University Union multipurpose room.

“I’ve Got a Little Twist” marks the legacy of Gilbert & Sullivan in American musical theater, featuring musical favorites from Rodgers & Hammerstein, Bernstein, Sondheim, Lerner & Loewe, Meredith Willson and Jerry Herman.

The performance will merge songs from shows such as “Pirates of Penzance,” “The Mikado,” “Patience,” “HMS Pinafore,” “Spamalot,” “Kiss me Kate,” “My Fair Lady,” “The Music Man,” “Cabaret” and “Brigadoon.”

The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players is a professional repertory company working to extend the legacy of Gilbert & Sullivan through performance and education.

Tickets are $22 for adults, $20 for senior citizens, $18 for those age 17 and younger, and $8 for SRU students. Call 724-738-2018.

Other shows in the series will be: Livingston Taylor, Oct. 19; Cherish the Ladies, March 27; and “Lets Hang On” a Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons tribute show, May 1.
