Rev. Frank J. Sapp Sr.

Frank Sapp

The Rev. Frank J. Sapp Sr., 64, of Bradys Bend passed away Wednesday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 10, 1949, in Philadelphia, he was the son of George C. and Elizabeth M. (Novakowski) Sapp.

Frank graduated from the Community College of Philadelphia with an associate degree in criminal justice. Then he graduated from Temple University with a bachelor's degree in religion and from Reformed Episcopal Seminary with a master's in divinity.

He started his career as a truck driver in Philadelphia for 19 years. Then he was pastor at Emanuel and Pilgrim Churches in Philadelphia from 1986 to 1992. Frank was pastor of the Sugarcreek Charge — St. Paul's and Trinity Churches — in Armstrong County from 1992 to 2001. From there he relocated to St. Paul's Church in Piqua, Ohio, where he was pastor from 2001 to 2011. Lastly, Frank was pastor at Redeeming Grace Church in Piqua from 2011 to 2012.

He enjoyed fishing, teaching Sunday School, eating Chinese food, spending time with his grandkids and telling people about Jesus.

Surviving are his wife, Claire Sapp of Bradys Bend, who he married July 7, 1973; his daughter, the Rev. Meg Carnahan and her husband, Randy, of Kaylor; and two sons, the Rev. Frank Sapp Jr. and his wife, Bernetta, of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and the Rev. Pete Sapp and his wife, Terri, of Kaylor.

Frank is also survived by nine grandchildren, Bethany, Elizabeth, Caleb, Malachi, Frankie, Jaina, Leah, Babs and Abbey.

Sapp — Friends of the Rev. Frank J. Sapp Sr., who passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Trinity Reformed Church, 887 State Route 68, East Brady.Additional visitation will be from 9 to time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Frank's children, the Revs. Frank and Pete Sapp and the Rev. Meg Carnahan officiating.
