SLIPPERY ROCK — Sports editor John Enrietto of the Butler Eagle was honored Monday with the top sports writing award by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
He received the award at the PSAC West Football Media Luncheon at Slippery Rock University.
The George Heaslip Media Award winner is picked annually by the league's sports information directors. It honors the media professional for coverage of the conference's student athletes, coaches and teams.
Enrietto covers SRU sports as well as athletes from Butler County who play at other PSAC schools.
The award is named for a former Cheyney University sports information director.
BUFFALO TWP — The township supervisors on Wednesday approved phase III of the Village at Sarver Mills housing development consisting of 15 new single-family homes.The plan, which is along Sarver Road, already has roughly 70 homes. After the first phase of roughly 50 homes was built, a new developer, the Meritage Group of Pittsburgh, took over.Meritage built 21 homes in the second phase.Jill Allan, Meritage vice president, said in an interview that a fourth phase of 25 lots is pending for 2015.She said homes are being marketed for sale for $300,000 to $599,000.
CRANBERRY TWP — US Liner Co., a manufacturer of thermoplastic composite solutions, has hired Jack Hartnagel as its national accounts director.With 20 years of experience in the transportation arena, Hartnagel joins US Liner from Hyundai Translead of San Diego, Calif., where he was sales director, southwest region. He also has had management sales positions at the Wabash National Co., the Donaldson Co. and the Kellogg's Sales Co.In his new position, Hartnagel will have sales responsibility to fleets and dealers for US Liner products.The US Liner Co., a division of American Made, has two manufacturing plants and one fabrication plant.It is a supplier of composite materials used in the truck/trailer market.
JEFFERSON TWP — Cabot Gun has made the cover of a national gun magazine.The company, based in Jefferson Township, is featured on the cover of RECON Firearms and is featured in the main story for the monthly magazine's August edition.The story compared three makes of 1911 pistols, which Cabot Gun is known for. The story said comparing Cabot Gun's 1911 to the others was like comparing a “Rolex to a Timex.”
The Community Development Corporation of Butler County has a new free tool on its website, www.butlercountycdc.com, to help with business site selection.At the bottom of the home page, click on the “Available Sites and Facilities” button to bring up listings of land, buildings and businesses for sale and lease in the county.The tool also generates business, community, labor force and other demographic data that can be localized to each property viewed.The CDC's database connects to the Pittsburgh Prospector website, www.pittsburghprospector.com, which lists available properties in 10 southwestern Pennsylvania counties.
CENTER TWP — Future POS Inc., the developers of Future POS software, was recently awarded Gold in the software category by the Retail Solution Providers Association.That group is the only association dedicated to the retail technology industry. Its annual conference was Aug. 5 in Kissimmee, Fla.John Giles, president and CEO of the Center Township company, said of the Gold Vendor of Excellence award, “I share in this honor with my guys back home who come in everyday and work hard to develop the best software in the POS market.”The company also unveiled its new mobile POS app at the convention.Future POS is a software company that works with restaurant around the world.
FirstEnergy Corp. is accepting applications for education grants for classroom projects for his school year.The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Classroom Grants of up to $500 will be awarded for teacher professional-development initiatives and classroom projects for prekindergarten through 12th grade.The grants are available to educators and youth group leaders living in communities served by FirstEnergy electric companies, which in Butler County includes West Penn Power and Penn Power.Applications must be submitted by Sept. 19. CRANBERRY TWP — The Westinghouse Electric Co. has received a contract in excess of $53 million for pumps for nuclear reactors in Finland.The order is from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) for 12 reactor internal pumps for Finland's Olkiluoto Units 1 and 2 boiling water reactors.Under the contract, Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB will manage the overall project.The reactor internal pumps are part of the main circulation circuit that provides the rotation of water through the reactor core. Each reactor vessel has six internal pumps.Installation and testing is scheduled during 2016, 2017 and 2018.
