SLIPPERY ROCK — The interfaith community of Slippery Rock has resumed its “third Thursday of the month” free dinners.

The next public dinner will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church, 130 Franklin St. The menu features hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad and dessert.

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — The Slippery Rock Community Farmers' Market will have a variety of activities this month, including:• Saturday: Rick Kralj of the Penn State Cooperative Extension will discuss home food preservation. Testing of pressure canner gauges will be available. Musician Dennis McCurdy will perform. Children will learn from Debbie Sale of Jennings Environmental Education Center about earthquakes and volcanoes.• Aug. 23: Sara Heald of GMO Free PA will provide information about genetically modified foods and offer updates on advocacy for legislation that requires GMO labeling. Biddy Nye will share his musical talents.• Aug. 30: Dawna Joy Anderson and Amber Baker of Sacred Body, Sacred Earth, a resource center for holistic community wellness, will speak on alternative healing methods. They also will lead a percussion circle. The Rock Jazz Trio with Dennis Grosky will provide music.The market is open from 9 a.m. until noon Saturdays through Oct. 25 at Rock Falls Park. SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock Area Parks and Recreation will hold its 2014 5K run/walk on Sept. 6 at the park.The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. Registration for those not preregistered will begin at 7:30 a.m. The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and younger.Those who register by Aug. 22 will receive a T-shirt.Call 724-794-8180 or visit the office to register.

GROVE CITY — Olde Town Grove City and the Grove City Arts Council are accepting entry forms from artists for the Sept. 11 Autumn Art Walk.The application and $35 entry fee must be submitted to the Olde Town office, 118 S. GROVE CITY — Olde Town Grove City is hosting a bargain basement sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23 in the basement of Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad St.“We’re bringing the sidewalk sale indoors,” said Mary Jo Palmer, event chairman.Coupons and refreshments will be available.Participants include ASA Fashions, beans on broad, b’gifted, Burdick’s Men’s Clothing, Grove City Community Library, Grove City Historical Society, JMK Boutique/RX Xpress and Olde Town Grove City.
