O. Eugene Miller

O. Eugene Miller, 90, of Butler and most recently a resident of Concordia at the Orchard, passed away Saturday morning at the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1923, in East Butler, the son of the late John T. Miller and Justina (Smith) Miller.

Gene graduated from Butler High School in 1942 and went on to serve in the military as a seaman 1st class in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Fort Marion in World War II.

On June 7, 1947, he married Edith J. Stepp, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2002.

He retired from the Armco Steel Corp. in 1986 after 43 years of service, most recently in the masonry department. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, carpentry and other leisure activities.

He was a charter member of the Faith United Presbyterian Church, where he served as both an elder and deacon. He was a member of the choir for 50 years. The addition to the church of a multipurpose room and classrooms was named “Miller Hall” after Gene and his brother, Wayne. He was a loving Christian man who was dedicated to his church family and diligently read the teachings of the Bible.

Gene was a member of the William H. Miller Lodge 769, the New Castle Consistory and the Pittsburgh Syria Shrine. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards with friends, home construction, and spending time with family.

He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Cynthia J. (Miller) Hinchberger of Butler, and his son, Gary Eugene Miller and his wife, Marcia, of Cranberry Township, as well as his five grandchildren, Bradley D. Hinchberger of Hopewell Township, Douglas A. Hinchberger and Kaitlyn J. Hinchberger of Butler, Ryan M. Miller and Jordon S. Miller of Cranberry Township, and his numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Edna Madison, Ruth Anderson and Iola Miller; his four brothers, Albert, Dana, Wayne, and Lemoyne Miller, and his special friend, Romaine MacDonald.

Miller— The friends of O. Eugene Miller, who passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N. Main St., Butler, with the Rev. Donald Aull of the Faith United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N.
