Charlotte Louise 'Charnie' (Montgomery) Tarasi

Charlotte Louise “Charnie” (Montgomery) Tarasi, 80, of Kittanning passed away Monday at her home.

She was born May 22, 1934, in Kittanning to the late Harry A. Montgomery and Ethyl (Zellefrow) Montgomery.

Charnie graduated from Kittanning Senior High School in 1952, Presbyterian University School of Nursing in 1955, Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1982, and University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing for School Practitioners in 1988.

She attended St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Cadogan, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and a Minister of the Eucharist.

An active volunteer with the American Cancer Society since 1970, she occupied various offices on the board of directors and served as coordinator of the Reach to Recovery program. She was also a 59-year cancer survivor.

Charnie was a member of the Kittanning Garden Club, the General Richard Butler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Presbyterian University Hospital Nurses Association, and the Armstrong County Nurses Association.

A former school nurse for the Armstrong School District, the Highlands School District and the Freeport School District, she retired in 1996.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan T. Bowie and her husband, Col. Robert D. Bowie, of Upper Marlboro, Md.; son, Harry A. Tarasi and his wife, Theresa “Terri,” of Natrona; six grandchildren, Frank, Dennis, Julie, and Daniel Tarasi, and Samantha and Sydney Bowie; her sister, Laura “Lolly” E. Mohney and her spouse, Paul Mohney, of Kittanning; and her daughter-in-law, Susan M. Tarasi of Ankeny, Iowa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Frank L. Tarasi, and her son, Frank L. Tarasi III.

Tarasi — The friends and family of Charlotte Louise “Charnie” (Montgomery) Tarasi, who passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning.A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Cadogan, with the Rev. Alan Grote celebrating.
