The Butler County Bar Association has moved to the other side of Main Street in the city.

The nonprofit organization, which serves both the legal community and the public, moved from a space in the Cornerstone Commons building at 201 S. Main St. to a storefront at 240 S. Main St.

The new location, which is closer to the county courthouse and government center on West Diamond Street, officially opened today after more than a month of setting up.

Janis Hackett, administrator, said the association needed a larger office to accommodate meetings, continuing education classes and regional workers’ compensation hearings.

The organization looked at several other locations but leased the space when it became available, Hackett said. The property formerly housed Southeast Land Services, a land title company serving the shale gas industry, for about a year and Lloyd Johnson Inc., an office supply store that moved across Main Street, for many years before that.

The bar association was founded in 1897. It provides a number of services, including continuing education for legal professionals and a lawyer referral service for residents. It also publishes the weekly Butler County Legal Journal.
