Marijuana, cash seized in SUV

2 men arrested in Jackson Twp.

JACKSON TWP — Two men were arrested Tuesday for alleged possession of marijuana after police were tipped off to a strong odor coming from their vehicle.

Joshua Barnes and Isaiah Anderson, both 23, and both from Buffalo, N.Y., are charged with suspicion of felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and criminal conspiracy.

The two men, and four other passengers, were stopped at 4:25 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Gas and Go on Route 19 in a red GMC SUV.

Township Police Chief Terry Seilhamer said another person at the gas station reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana, and alerted a police officer who was parked across the street.

“I think they were smoking weed before they got out of the vehicle and when they opened the door, the odor wafted out,” Seilhamer said.

Police seized about 100 grams of marijuana, some of which was alleged to have been individually packaged, and $7,600 in cash they found in the vehicle and on Barnes and Anderson.

The other passengers of the vehicle were not charged.

One of the arrested men said they were on their way to Atlanta, while the other claimed North Carolina, Seilhamer said.

Both men were taken to the Butler County Prison. Barnes has $25,000 bail and Anderson has $15,000 bail.

As of Wednesday afternoon, they had not posted bail.
