Joseph Kennedy

Joseph W. Kennedy, 85, of Butler passed away Saturday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born on Aug. 2, 1928, in Monett, Mo., he was a son of the late Rodger O. and Thelma Fay Richardson Kennedy.

He worked as a federal employee for the General Services Administration as a storage specialist. He retired in 1982 after 35 years service. Following his retirement, he operated Bon Aire Texaco for 10 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy in Butler. He enjoyed working on his antique cars and playing golf.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley D. Gurner, whom he married on June 11, 1977, a daughter, Elizabeth (Donnie Hancher) Bradshaw of Wellsburg, W.Va.; three sons, Roger (Joanne) Kennedy of Knoxville, Tenn., Mark (Tina) Kennedy of Houston, Texas, and Randy (Juanita) Kennedy of Texas; a brother, Bill (Jackie) Kennedy of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Jean Dawson of Anacortes, Wash., and Eula Fay Offut of Antelope, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Kennedy— The friends of Joseph W. Kennedy, who passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion at Butler County Memorial Park.There will be a prayer service at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler PA 16001.For more information or to leave an online condolence, please visit www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
