Technology upgraded for office, police
EVANS CITY — Some new technology at the office will ensure that borough business is running smoothly.
Council at the July 7 meeting unanimously approved the purchase of a new computer tower for the police chief and the upgrade of copying and imaging technology in the main office on South Jackson Street.
Jaime Turney, an account executive with Toshiba Business Solutions’ Western Pennsylvania office, told the council the current copier in the borough office is aging and beginning to freeze and operate slowly.
She said the copier, which is a Toshiba model, should be upgraded to a model that can efficiently produce the same 2,900 black-and-white prints and 600 color copies as the current model.
Turney recommended a copier that would perform the required functions while saving the borough $3,722 over the term of the five-year agreement because it would cost $349 per month instead of the current $408.
She said because the borough is a longtime customer, the copy amounts could be dropped down for even greater monthly savings.
Council President Lee Dyer said although the copier will see less use because the sewer and water authority has moved to its own office on Wahl Street, next year’s merger of the police force with Seven Fields will increase use of the machine.
The council members approved the deal with Toshiba.
Police Chief Joe McCombs said during his report to the council that he needs a new desktop computer tower because his is aging and not functioning at an acceptable level.
He recommended the council approve the purchase of a Dell Inspiron tower at a cost of $550, plus a two-year protection agreement for $99.
The council unanimously approved the $650 outlay.
