Man robbed in home invasion
A Butler man was reportedly robbed at knife point early Sunday morning during a home invasion in the city’s Island neighborhood, police said.
The alleged victim, who Butler police did not identify, was shaken up but he was not hurt in the suspected robbery in the 500 block of Negley Avenue.
The 22-year-old man told police he was seated in the living room shortly before 3 a.m. when an unknown male armed with a large kitchen knife and wearing a blue or black hooded sweat shirt forced his way in through the door.
The suspect’s face was hidden by a florescent orange hunting mask. The hood of the robber’s sweat shirt also was reportedly pulled up around his face, according to a police report.
The victim was at the house visiting two other people, who were home but upstairs. Neither came downstairs even after hearing yelling and screaming, police said.
The man provided police with a detailed description of the knife, which he said was in the suspect’s left hand. He said the knife had a thin, sliver blade that was between 6 and 8 inches long.
The victim recounted the armed intruder grabbed him by his white tank top and forced him to the floor. The man’s tank top was ripped in the altercation.
The suspect placed his knee into the man’s back and went through his pockets, taking a gray leather wallet, a pack of cigarettes, a small Smith & Wesson pocket knife and about $50 in currency, the report said.
The alleged robber left the house and the victim called 911.
Police continue to investigate but they have no suspects.
